OVERVIEW

A 1997 study of the characteristics of America`s best nonprofit organizations found that the best organizations had the following characteristics in common:

- A compelling and persuasive mission
- Inspirational leaders with a passion to improve society or alleviate a problem
- Innovative strategies for income generation
- A roadmap setting out the organization`s future direction
- An Active board of directors who understood their governance role

Our monthly Nonprofit Leadership Series will examine the characteristics of a strong, well-functioning nonprofit organization by offering seminars that deal with board development, strategic planning, finances, technology, and other issues affecting the long term sustainability of your nonprofit.

WHY ATTEND THE NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP SERIES?
Research has shown that the most successful nonprofit leaders are constantly improving their skills and knowledge about the way that nonprofits run. Our Leadership Series offers you the opportunity to learn from industry experts as well as other nonprofit leaders.

CAN ONE ATTEND SPECIFIC SEMINARS ONLY?
We understand the demands that are placed on you and your time. That`s why you can attend only the seminars that are of interest to you. You pay for only the seminars you wish to attend and only for the information relevant to you. It’s a novel approach to learning that allows you to get exactly what you’re looking for in a short amount of time.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE SEMINARS?
Each seminar features 2-3 experts who will give a short overview of the key developments in that field. After that, we will move into an interactive session that explores key issues and their real-world implications. The session will end with a summary of practical next steps.

HOW IS THE LEADERSHIP SERIES DIFFERENT FROM OTHER EDUCATIONAL EVENTS?
The Leadership Series offers a unique format to help you accomplish the following:

Build relationships: to ensure maximum exposure to the experts and other nonprofit leaders, each seminar offers structured networking before the session starts
Hear different perspectives: the experts are drawn from different sectors of the nonprofit community to ensure cross-pollination of ideas and practices
Provide a global view: speakers give an overview of key issues so that you can eliminate any gaps in your understanding of the subject
Drill down to the specifics: speakers will also focus on providing specific answers to real-world questions that are common to most attendees
Obtain information you can use: the emphasis in all sessions is on avoiding theoretical discussions in favor of practical tools and techniques that nonprofit leaders can actually use

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LEADERSHIP SERIES?
The Leadership Series is organized by the Center for Nonprofit Success, a nonprofit organization that specializes in bringing highly relevant information that nonprofit leaders need to run their organizations successfully. We developed the Leadership Series as a follow-on to the Fundraising Summit, a highly successful educational series on fundraising and grantmaking that has been taking place around the country for the past two years.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE LEADERSHIP SERIES?

Location/Directions

The Nonprofit Leadership Series will take place at The Boston Common Hotel. The Boston Common Hotel is located 7.5 miles/15 minutes from Logan International Airport and is easily accessible by public transportation.

The December 12th seminar is on the 3rd floor. When you enter the venue, the elevators will be on the right. Go to the 3rd floor. Follow the signs to our meeting room.

Public Transportation
By Subway/Commuter Rail
Back Bay/T Station
Orange Line or Commuter Rail. Turn right on Dartmouth Street. Make first right onto Stuart Street. Make first right onto Trinity Place. We are on the left.

Copley Station
Green Line. Walk diagonally across Copley Square towards Trinity Church. Walk between Copley Plaza Hotel and John Hancock Tower onto Trinity Place. Boston Common Hotel is one block down on left.

Directions by Car
From Logan Airport
Exit to Airport Roadway, follow signs to Boston via Sumner Tunnel (Toll). After exiting the tunnel, stay to your right and take second right onto Rt. 93 north to Storrow Drive. Stay in the right lane and exit to Storrow Drive, after approximately 1 mile on Storrow Drive, exit left for Copley Square. Turn right at the light onto Beacon Street. Travel 2 blocks, turn left onto Clarendon Street. Follow Clarendon St. through (7) sets of lights and look for the Garage @ 100 Clarendon on the right.

From the West
Follow the Massachusetts Turnpike (Rt. 90) East into Downtown Boston (toward Central Artery and Southeast Expressway). The Turnpike will become a tunnel under The Hynes Convention Center and Prudential Building. While in this underpass, take Exit 22 (Prudential Center/Copley Square). Bear right, following signs to Copley Square. This will bring merge into Stuart Street eastbound. Stay straight at lights at Dartmouth Street. At the second set of lights, take a right onto Clarendon Street and look for Garage @ 100 Clarendon on the right.

From North
Take Interstate Route 93 South towards Boston and take Storrow Drive/Leveret Circle Exit. After approximately 1 mile on Storrow Drive, bear left and take left exit to Copley Square. Turn right at the light onto Beacon Street. Travel 2 blocks, turn left onto Clarendon Street. Follow Clarendon St. through (7) sets of lights and look for the Garage @ 100 Clarendon on the right.

From South
Take Interstate Route 93 N to exit 18 for Massachusetts Avenue. Follow signs off of the exit ramp to Mass Ave. Take a right on Mass Ave. and go through about 8 sets of lights until the intersection with Huntington Avenue. Take a right onto Huntington Avenue. At the Westin hotel, Huntington Avenue becomes Stuart Street. Stay straight at lights at Dartmouth Street. At the second set of lights, take a right onto Clarendon Street and look for Garage @ 100 Clarendon on the right.

This is a public lot and is not dedicated to CFNPS attendees. They have 2000 spaces and the lot never fills up.

The main entrance/exit is located on Clarendon Street. The second entrance uses the express ramp on Trinity Place (off of Stuart Street). The second exit, located on the Clarendon Street side of the garage, uses the express ramp and is only available to Monthly Parkers. This exit offers direct access to the Mass Turnpike West.

Handicap spaces are located on levels 2 through 8 across from the elevators.

$11.00 - 1/2 hr up to 1 hr
$15.00 - 1 hr up to 1 1/2 hrs
$18.00 - 1 1/2 hrs up to 2 hrs
$28.00 - 2 hrs up to 10 hrs
$33.00 - Over 10 hrs to 5 am following day

Form of Payment Accepted: Cash and most major credit cards are accepted.
Payment stations are located in lobbies. Before returning to your vehicle, please take your ticket to one of the four pay stations located in our lobbies. After the fee is paid, the validated ticket will be returned to you for the exit gate.

Driving Directions to the lot: See above under Directions by Car.

Walking Directions from the lot to the hotel: Head north on Clarendon Street toward Stanhope Street. Turn left at Trinity Place. Enter the Boston Common Hotel.
Walking time: 5 minutes
